Speeding it up suggestions?

I have an Access 2002 database with over 2300 records that include hyperlinks
to cataloged news articles and the like. Every time I go to add a new link
it takes a long time to what appears to be scanning the database first before

I can select the article to create the new link.

Is there a way to speed up that process? (By the way ...'Indexing' was
switched off to speed up working with a large FrontPage web.)

Any help would be appreciated.
