| | Guest | | | | | | | | | | Err msg: Cannot locate internet server or proxy server I am running Access 2002 as part of Office 2002, and I have a table
with a field of data type hyperlink, that was successfully taking me to
the specified web site when clicked, but has just started giving me the
error message: "Unable to open http://whatever.com/some_page.htm.
Cannot locate the Internet server or proxy server."
Any ideas what is causing this? I have created new tables with Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/information-technology/5903-err-msg-cannot-locate-internet-server.htmlReference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=5903
hyperlink fields just to test and that failed as well. I installed no
new software, although windows updates for XP Pro are set to install
automatically, so there may have been a few of those.
Thanks,

see if you get the same error.
If you do, the problem is outside Access, probably the settings of your
Internet access.

| | Guest | | | | | | | | | | Re: Err msg: Cannot locate internet server or proxy server No, those addresses work just fine in the browser. It happens with
every hyperlink in Access, not just some. All are valid web addresses
that work just fine when copied and pasted into IE. It is clearly a Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=5903
problem occurring inside access. And it is very recent - within the Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=5903
4-6 weeks. Prior to that they all worked fine from within Access.
What else causes this problem? |

| | Guest | | | | | | | | | | Re: Err msg: Cannot locate internet server or proxy server Sorry, I don't know but AFAIK, the error message looks like a Browser error
message and not Access error message.
Suggest you post the set-up and the error message in one of the Internet Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=5903
newsgroups and see if anyone has a suggestion.

| | Guest | | | | | | | | | | Re: Err msg: Cannot locate internet server or proxy server I've already explored the IE route. I was told that it was an Office Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=5903
issue, not an internet explorer issue. And that seems to be confirmed
in the MS KB article #Q218153, but the following causes from that
article aren't issues for me:
· You are using Microsoft Internet Explorer:
· A proxy server -or-
· A firewall that does not allow HTTP requests to be placed on your
local network
-AND-
· Internet Explorer is not your default browser.
-AND-
· The following registry key is not present or is not set to 1: Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=5903
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\C ommon\Internet
I have NO proxy server, my firewall hasn't changed since the error
began & always worked before (plus the error still occurs with the
firewall OFF), internet explorer IS my default browser, and the listed
registry key IS present and set to 1.
Now what? Where else should I look to trackdown this problem? |

| | Guest | | | | | | | | | | Re: Err msg: Cannot locate internet server or proxy server Sorry, can't help. I never had problem using the Hyperlink Fields from
Access or even the FollowHyperlink method.
* Try creating a new test database with Hyperlink Fields and see if you have
the same problem (just in case the current database has some corruptions).
* Try repairing your Office installation.

| | Guest | | | | | | | | | | Re: Err msg: Cannot locate internet server or proxy server Well I've already done the test database as mentioned in my original
post, and those links generate the same error message. I tried an Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=5903
Office repair this morning, but that doesn't seem to have affected this
problem at all.
Looks like I'm down to about 2 viable options, lest I spend an eternity Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=5903
looking for a needle in a haystack
1. Office reinstall and if that doesn't work 2. Format the HD and
reinstall windows. Let's hope option 1 proves successful!
In any event, thanks for your help Van! |

| | Guest | | | | | | | | | | Re: Err msg: Cannot locate internet server or proxy server OK... I have the same problem... except: Works fine on my Devp PC.. but on my
test/target PC using RUNTIME Access environment it bombs with the exact same
error. Has worked fine on a different test/target PC using FULL ACCESS.
Runtime PC has internet access and address is valid in IE.
