I have copied an Access file to the network. Everything looks good from my
machine. However when the user works with the database, one of the subforms
Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/information-technology/13986-instr-function-not-defined-version-conflict.html
has no data.
I tried to even go into design view on his machine and I get a message
"Instr function no defined".... I have SP-3 and he does not. Could the
Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=13986
version be the problem? Would I need to change the app, or would updating to
SP-3 on his machine help?... I did not think it was a version problem because
the data showed up until I made a change and re-copied it .. but the data
shows up fine on my machine

That PC has a missing reference.
Open any module in Design view (or click Ctrl + G).
On the Tools menu, click References.
Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=13986
Click to clear the check box for the type library or object library
marked as "Missing:."

An alternative to removing the reference is to restore the referenced
file to the path specified in the References dialog box. If the
referenced file is in a new location, clear the "Missing:" reference
and create a new reference to the file in its new folder.

See Microsoft KnowledgeBase articles:
283115 'ACC2002: References That You Must Set When You Work with
Microsoft Access'
Or for Access 97:
175484 'References to Set When Working With Microsoft Access' for
the correct ones needed,
and
160870 'VBA Functions Break in Database with Missing References' for
how to reset a missing one.

Re: Instr function not defined--- Version conflict?

When I look at the references in the VBA editor, on the users machine ,it
looks like the same references are checked as are when I look at it on my
machine. Both machines are Access 2000. The references checked are Visual
Basic for Applications,Microsoft Access 9.0 Object library, OLE Automation,
Microsoft ActiveX Data objects 2.1 Library and Microsoft Windows common
controls sp6. Do I need to check some of the others. It looks like from the
information you directed me to, some of the others need to be checked. I did
not find any marked as "missing" but there were only 5 boxes checked.

Re: Instr function not defined--- Version conflict?

I opened the Access file up on another users computer that has the same
Access version I have and the data for that one subform does not show up, but
I still see it from my machine. Do I need to rebuild the query and copy over
the old version? I am running out of ideas as to how to solve this. Thanks
