how do I create up a lookup field that is longer than 255 characte

I am designing a medical database that issues reports for endoscopic
procedures. I wish to have the ability in the report for each different
procedure to include a body of text (~1000 characters long) that is the same

from report to report but different for each procedure (there are 8
procedures in total). The lookup boxes in tables are limited to 255
characters. I am using Access 2000. Can anyone help?

You could give each procedure a short name in another field and use that for
the lookup. HTH

It would seem that you would want to do something like what SHeila
suggests anyway. The chances of someone re-entering the ~1000
characters the same the second time as the first are EXTREMELY small.

It sounds as if you are using the lookup "feature" on the table design.

My impression from reading this group and some others is that that is
one of those "better ideas" that are really NOT better. Especially
since you would be trying to do it with a memo field.

Use a combobox when needed that uses the short description or a

autonumber key to maintain normalization.

A real report (as opposed to a form) wouldn't be using the lookup
anyway. Really both would be using linked tables - one way or the
other.
