Can Shrink Report Columns ?

I have a report which contains subreports than can shrink and not
appear in the main report if they don't exist. Now I need a method of
having columns within the subreports shrink and not appear if the data
for that particular field is null. I want both the column header and
detail data to not appear if the detail data is null. The header for
