My task is simple. I have a query that refernces several tables. The result
is exactly what I need to edit. However I am unable to change any of the
table values in the query.

Generally only 1 table can be edited at a time, but you can include data
from other tables in that query. Queries must be updateable. Go into the SQL
view and try changing the select statement from:

Select ...

to:

Select Distinctrow ...
