Could you provide some more details?

Do you want to transfer data from an Lotus Approach database to an
Microsoft Access database?

Re: Approach to acess migration

Hi Joseph,

We are actually migrating the whole application(data and the
forms,reports..everything) to access.

I think migrating the data (.dbf files) in to access will not be a

problem.

Wanted to know the challenges in migrating the application as a whole.

Please reply as soon as possible.

cheers,
nuti

Re: Approach to acess migration

This si a piece of sing question.

If your app has 1 form it's pobably trivial

If your app has 100 forms it' probably major work.

You need to employ someone ho is competent in this sort of work get them to
look at it and ive you an estimate.

In general it means you will be re-writing the entire application. I
have migrated a few applications from Approach to Access and I did not even
try to duplicate the applications as the available features are so different
it was far easier to do a total re-write using the existing data and using
the Access features.

If you have not worked with Access before, be ready to database shock.

There is a steep learning curve. I have moved from Dbase to Enable to
Approach to Access. Access takes a totally different mind set. Overall I

say Access is the most professional and versatile of the lot, but it does
take a lot longer to learn.

Good Luck
