| | | | | Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Reveals Why the BJP is Hostile to Him and is Stalling Parliament 16 February 2011 Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reveals why the BJP is hostile to him and is stalling Parliament Vijay Simha New Delhi Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/india/34522-prime-minister-manmohan-singh-reveals-why.html Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has, almost reluctantly, let out the real reason why the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the principal opposition party in India, is stalling Parliament and is sustaining a campaign against him. “The BJP has taken a very hostile attitude. Parliament is not allowed to function. In private they say you (the PM) have taken a decision against a person who was a minister in Gujarat. You must reverse it or . . .” At this point, the Prime Minister paused and looked distinctly uncomfortable. He then said, “I don’t want to say further.” There was a brief buzz before the next question was asked. The Prime Minister’s admission came in his interaction with editors of select news television channels at his residence in New Delhi. In the interaction, the Prime Minister sought to deflect attention from the series of scams coming to light, saying the government was also doing positive things. But it was his revelation of the BJP demand that set the current political happenings in perspective. In public, the BJP has been saying that their campaign is targeted at a weak government that is not doing enough to combat corruption. For instance, the BJP stalled the whole of Parliament’s winter session saying the government must institute a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the 2G spectrum scam. The BJP stepped up its campaign again, days before Parliament’s Budget session is to begin. Amit Shah Now, the real reason emerges. The Gujarat minister the BJP may be referring to is former minister of state for home affairs Amit Shah. Tehelka had first exposed Shah’s role in the fake encounter deaths of Sohrabuddin Shaikh, his wife Kauserbi and their friend Tulsiram Prajapati. Shah was forced to resign following the Tehelka reports. He was since taken into custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and charged with murder, kidnapping and extortion. In the normal course, Shah’s arrest should have nothing to do with the functioning of Parliament. Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=34522 But in the bizarre world of Indian politics, the Prime Minister is now frustrated because, he says, his plans are being stalled by a BJP focused on Shah’s exoneration. It is not clear what exactly the Prime Minister means when he said the BJP is seeking a reversal of the decision on Shah. Presumably, the BJP wants the CBI to withdraw its cases against Shah. Shah was a confidant of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Till the time of writing this, no BJP leader was available in Delhi for a response. This is not the first time that publicly stated goals have clashed with partisan political goals. It is known, for instance, that the BJP’s principal concern with American authorities is a visa for Narendra Modi. Likewise, the BJP may be stalling Parliament on an issue they didn't share with the people. source: http://www.tehelka.com/story_main48.asp?filename=Ws160211BJP_tells.asp#
