NEW DELHI: Two Delhi Police constables have been arrested for allegedly beating up a scrap dealer in Sonia Vihar here and extorting money from him.
The accused have been identified as Anil and Hitler. Constable Anil is posted in the first battalion of the Delhi Armed Police and his accomplice constable Hitler is posted in the North-West district.
Anil and Hitler reached the shop of Rohulla Khan (51) in a Wagon-R car in Sonia Vihar Pushta on Sunday around 2-30 a.m. along with two accomplices and allegedly told the scrap dealer that they were Central Bureau of Investigation officials and asked him to come along. When the scrap dealer resisted, the four allegedly pushed him inside the car and drove away.
While driving around the city, the four told Rohulla that they had information about his illegal activities and that he received stolen iron rods from robbers. “The four asked the scrap dealer to either pay them Rs.5 lakh or face legal action. When Rohulla did not yield to their demand, the four allegedly beat him up. At last, the deal was struck for Rs.50,000 and the scrap dealer gave them Rs.20,000 which he was carrying with him. He promised to pay them the remaining amount and called up his nephew Basiullah to come near a metro station in Maurice Nagar with the money,” said a senior police officer.

Suspecting foul play, Basiullah took along half-a-dozen acquaintances and reached the rendezvous around 5 p.m. When the accused reached near the metro station, Basiullah along with his acquaintances overpowered two of the four accused and made a call to the police. The two were then take to Maurice Nagar police station and the matter was later transferred to Sonia Vihar police station in North-East Delhi.
The police arrested the two and registered a case under Section 384 (extortion) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.

However, the police did not charge the accused with abduction contending that the scrap dealer had gone with them on his own.
