This would be for the first time that SGPC has initiated process to induct MBA professionals to its team of about 3,000 employees. It may be mentioned here that SGPC, a statutory body comprising elected representatives of the Sikhs concerned primarily with the management of sacred Sikh shrines under its control within the territorial limits of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and the Union territory of Chandigarh. Apart from the management of Gurdwaras, the SGPC runs many prestigious educational institutions including Medical colleges, Hospitals and many charitable trusts. Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=29348 SGPC which is also known as mini parliament of Sikhs had invited Gursikh and Amritdhari candidates to appear in the walk-in-interview for various posts in Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib on Thursday. The interviews for various posts held in the college premises. SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar has constituted a committee to select the candidates. According to information received, SGPC Director Education Dr Gurmohan Singh Walia, SGPC secretary Dilmegh Singh, a charted accountant S.S. Kohli, Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib principal Dr Jatinder Singh Sidhu and Khalsa College, Patiala principal Dr Dharminder Singh Ubha was member of the selection committee. The interview started around 2 pm and continued till late evening. Written test of the candidates were also taken. For two posts of Supervisor (Store Purchase) the SGPC has preferred MBA in Material Management candidates. Sources said nine candidates have applied. For the one post of Supervisor/Accounts Officer the religious body fixed MBA finance qualification. Sources said nine candidates applied for the post. For the ten posts of Supervisor Accounts the SGPC preferred B.Com/M.Com PGDCA qualification. Sources said 63 candidates applied for the post. For the three posts of Branch Supervisor the committee fixed M.A. English with atleast second division with proficiency in spoken and written. Sources said total 11 candidates applied for the post. For the two posts of Supervisor publicity the SGPC fixed qualification MJMC/MMC with 5 years experience in English newspaper. Sources said only two candidates applied for the post. Dr Walia informed that those Gursikh candidates who were not Amritdharis at present were also allowed to attend walk-in-interview. However, if selected they will have to partake Amrit before joining duty. While confirming that MBAs will be appointed first time in SGPC head office at Amritsar, claimed that today’s interviews have conducted in a transparent way. SGPC did not allow patits (apostate) Sikhs candidates to appear in the interview. The SGPC did not mention any age limit in the advertisements given in newspapers neither mention scale for the duty but it was mentioned that there is age relaxation for deserving candidates. Not only male but a large number of female candidates also attended interview for posts. When contacted SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar he said the committee wants to hire professional for providing better services to people and to get best result. It may be mentioned that The Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925 was clear that the Shiromani committee or institutes being run by it could not be treated as an industry, corporation or a business house. The employees who were recruited got salary for the “seva” they rendered to gurdwaras or SGPC-run institutes. gurpreetsinghmehak@gmail.com
