Shoes of Honor

What does the sangat think this shabad tells us? It is quite beautiful. The attached picture is of the wooden shoes of Guru Arjan Dev ji. The shabad is by Guru Nanak on Ang 1256 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Maharaj.

ਮਲਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੨
malaar mehalaa 1 ghar 2
Malaar, First Mehl, Second House:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik oankaar sathigur prasaadh ||
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਪਵਣੈ ਪਾਣੀ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਤਿ ॥
pavanai paanee jaanai jaath ||
Know that the creation was formed through air and water;

ਕਾਇਆਂ ਅਗਨਿ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਭਰਾਂਤਿ ॥
kaaeiaaan agan karae nibharaanth ||
have no doubt that the body was made through fire.

ਜੰਮਹਿ ਜੀਅ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੇ ਥਾਉ ॥

janmehi jeea jaanai jae thhaao ||
And if you know where the soul comes from,

ਸੁਰਤਾ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥
surathaa panddith thaa kaa naao ||1||
you shall be known as a wise religious scholar. ||1||

ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ਮਾਇ ॥
gun gobindh n jaaneeahi maae ||
Who can know the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, O mother?

ਅਣਡੀਠਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
anaddeethaa kishh kehan n jaae ||
Without seeing Him, we cannot say anything about Him.

ਕਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

How can anyone speak and describe Him, O mother? ||1||Pause||

ਊਪਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਅਸਮਾਨਿ ਪਇਆਲਿ ॥
oopar dhar asamaan paeiaal ||
He is high above the sky, and beneath the nether worlds.

ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਕਹੀਐ ਦੇਹੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
kio kar keheeai dhaehu veechaar ||
How can I speak of Him? Let me understand.

ਬਿਨੁ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਜੋ ਜਪੈ ਹਿਆਇ ॥ਕੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੈਸਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੨॥
bin jihavaa jo japai hiaae || koee jaanai kaisaa naao ||2||
Who knows what sort of Name is chanted, in the heart, without the tongue? ||2||

ਕਥਨੀ ਬਦਨੀ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਭਰਾਂਤਿ ॥
kathhanee badhanee rehai nibharaanth ||
Undoubtedly, words fail me.

ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
so boojhai hovai jis dhaath ||
He alone understands, who is blessed.

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
ahinis anthar rehai liv laae ||
Day and night, deep within, he remains lovingly attuned to the Lord.

ਸੋਈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਜਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥
soee purakh j sach samaae ||3||
He is the true person, who is merged in the True Lord. ||3||

ਜਾਤਿ ਕੁਲੀਨੁ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜੇ ਹੋਇ ॥
jaath kuleen saevak jae hoe ||
If someone of high social standing becomes a selfless servant,

ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਹਹੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
thaa kaa kehanaa kehahu n koe ||
then his praises cannot even be expressed.

ਵਿਚਿ ਸਨਾਤਂ*ੀ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
vich sanaathanaee saevak hoe ||
And if someone from a low social class becomes a selfless servant,

ਨਾਨਕ ਪਣ੍ਹੀਆ ਪਹਿਰੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੧॥੬॥
naanak panheeaa pehirai soe ||4||1||6||
O Nanak, he shall wear shoes of honor. ||4||1||6||
