Have you heard of Vairagmayi Bani by Guru Tegh Bahadur?

I saw the following in a review of a recent publication by Khushwant Singh:

Songs of the Gurus: From Nanak to Gobind Singh

Quote:

The new book contains a selection of verses from Guru Granth Sahib and other sacred texts like Guru Tegh Bahadur’s “Vairagmayi Bani” and the “Dasam Granth” of Guru Gobind Singh.

I have never heard of the above bani. Can anyone inform us?

If I am not mistaken -- It begins on Ang 1426 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and concludes on Ang 1429. See this link

This is how it begins.

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਹਲਾ ੯ ॥
salok mehalaa 9 ||
Shalok, Ninth Mehl:

ਗੁਨ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗਾਇਓ ਨਹੀ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਕਾਰਥ ਕੀਨੁ ॥
gun gobindh gaaeiou nehee janam akaarathh keen ||
If you do not sing the Praises of the Lord, your life is rendered useless.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਭਜੁ ਮਨਾ ਜਿਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਲ ਕਉ ਮੀਨੁ ॥੧॥
kahu naanak har bhaj manaa jih bidhh jal ko meen ||1||
Says Nanak, meditate, vibrate upon the Lord; immerse your mind in Him, like the fish in the water. ||1||

Vairaagmai Bani is bani that brings tears..emotion of vairaag..sadness.

The Ending sloks of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji commonly called Nauvehn Mehelle de slok that are read at Bhog time are such bani.
Analogy of ending sloks of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.. Completion of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji....end of human life span...failure towards being ready to meet our Maker...all these emotions are in this bani.

Most of Mahalla nauvaan's Bani evokes such emotions. Meant as a last..Final warning..to make amends..before life comes to an end and this life time is wasted....

Vairaagmaii is an adjective...its not name/title of any bani as such.

Thanks for the info guys. I thought it may have been some pothi not included in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
