"Gurmit Singh" is my real name in the false world.
2. Please tell us about your first experiences of Sikhi (either in your family or as a convert).
From childhood, I just went to Gurduara Sahib, performed Mathaa Tek, took Parshaad and came back home.
3. What events and experiences inspired you to continue on your journey learning about Sikhism, and deepening your understanding?
As I grew, I met other colleagues in the passage of service and read books. The Sikh religion continues to generate more love in me for its Divine Wisdom. I endeavored to study Sikh History with devotion and humility.
4. If you could name one thing about Sikhism that is most important to you (something that you would never give up) what would it be?
The Sikh Religion is a complete package. Either to take it or leave it! All of its aspects/tenets are equally important. In our daily Prayer/Ardaas we say, O Almighty God! Till my last breath, may I never part with my hair! Hence, there is nothing to give up because I have nothing of my own.
5. Were there individuals who were role models, who taught you how to be and live as a Sikh?
My role models are the 10 Gurus Sahibaan from Guru Nanak Sahib to Guru Gobind Singh Sahib, all the Martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of their Sikh Faith and to protect others. Gurbaani and Gurus' teachings teach us at every moment how to live a Sikh Way of Life.
6. Who may have motivated you to learn more about Sikhism?
Gurbaani and Sikh history books plus Sikh magazines and attending congregations. Not any individual.
7. Did you ever experience barriers as you continued on your journey?
No, I have already crossed that limit at the speed of 74+.
8. Thinking of yourself today as a Sikh, how do you live Sikhism in your own way?
I myself have no way of mine. Before breathing his last on 7 October 1708, Guru Gobind Singh Sahib had ordained all the Sikhs "to obey Guru Granth". It applies to all the Sikhs. Hence, we should not be divided into different groups or factions. We all should follow "Ekaa Baani Ek Gur Eko Shabd Vichaar" (GGS page 646).
During the past (26) years I have traveled to various countries but have not encountered any difficulty, except once when my passport was impounded by the Indian Commission abroad. Or I should say my passport was sent for renewal and was never returned. The reason could be that, being an Amritdhari Sikh, I did not attend gathering of the Diaspora Indians arranged at the time of Indian prime minister's death in 1984. But God's Grace, I continued to live abroad since 1983 without any difficulty.
9. How do you understand Seva to the Guru and to the panth, in your own words and in your own experience?
Best Seva is to read, recite, comprehend Gurbaani enshrined in the Guru Granth Sahib, and then practice in life so that others could also learn the Sikh way of life: i.e. Truthful Living by performing righteous deeds without any Ego and for no Monetary gain or desire for status as a Big Person. Go on following the basic Sikh tenets without compromise and never imitate others.
10. What is the most difficult part of being a Sikh?
Nothing, if one follows Gurus' Teachings with devotion and humility and shares with others. Be always truthful.
11. Is there anything else you would like to share with the Readers
My humble request is to have complete Trust in the Almighty God, understand and practice the "Shabd Guru" as enshrined in the Guru Granth Sahib, from "Ekk Oankaar to Mundavani," pages 1 to 1429, and discard any other secondary literature, which does not conform to the Gurbaani and Gurmatt as taught by our Gurus Sahibaan from 1469 to 1708. We should not follow any cult/sect even though it may have some appearance to the Sikh religion, because such individual factions are nothing but coated pills containing venom/poison to harm the Sikh Way of Life.
12.What are the Top 5 Critical Things that you Would Love to See for SPN members
First of all, I must admit that despite guidance given to me by Gyani Jarnail Singh jee, I am unable to participate in SPN discussions because its messages are not received like messages on other Internets.
For example, I am member of other Internet forums, and their messages are automatically sent to me. When I start my computer, I can read them and respond straightway; whereas I am unable to follow SPN directions. That is why you will find only one message. But when I send response through other mates, it is never shared or I don't get any feedback.
In light of that experience, I wish to share that when a new issue/point/topic is discussed by the members, moderators must share the final outcome of such discussion.
If it is to be referred to any other authority/agency, a self-contained brief should be prepared and sent with a request to have advice within a month. Then go on reminding until a final reply is received.
If any issue does not conform to Gurbaani and Gurmatt, that should not be discussed or shared but blocked at the very beginning.
When new Member joins, he/she should be a Sikh, and should disclose his/her Full Name without any surname except Singh and Kaur. He/she should mention his/her place of residence. In fact, members should have their telephone numbers as well, so that their authenticity can be checked by the moderators.
False names or nicknames or half names or proxy names should not be encouraged.
We should stick to the topic without any personal attack.
If any member needs more information, that member could seek such information through a private email or seek through the moderators.
At the end I wish to say that ours should be fruitful discussion with a view to learn from others rather than imposing our own viewpoint, as such futile discussion simply for scoring points should be avoided.
I am sorry if I have not understood any question.
