What is the actual meaning?

Why is Kabir talking about his daughter-in-law? Is it a metaphor?

Could anyone please explain what the whole page is actually stating. The obvious I understand.

Re: Pg 484 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji - Meaning?

i read the translation of pro sahib singh of this shabad
http://www.gurugranthdarpan.com/0484.html
Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=9073

the whole shabad is like this

Page 484

Awsw ] (484-1)
aasaa.
Aasaa:

myrI bhurIAw ko DnIAw nwau ] (484-1, Awsw, Bgq kbIr jI)
mayree bahuree-aa ko Dhanee-aa naa-o.
Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=9073
My daughter-in-law was first called Dhannia, the woman of wealth,

ly rwiKE rwm jnIAw nwau ]1] (484-1, Awsw, Bgq kbIr jI)
lay raakhi-o raam janee-aa naa-o. ||1||
but now she is called Raam-jannia, the servant of the Lord. ||1||

ien@ muMfIAn myrw Gru DuMDrwvw ] (484-1, Awsw, Bgq kbIr jI)
inH mundee-an mayraa ghar DhunDhraavaa.
These shaven-headed saints have ruined my house.

ibtvih rwm rmaUAw lwvw ]1] rhwau ] (484-2, Awsw, Bgq kbIr jI)
bitvahi raam ram-oo-aa laavaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
They have caused my son to start chanting the Lord's Name. ||1||Pause||

khqu kbIr sunhu myrI mweI ] (484-2, Awsw, Bgq kbIr jI)
kahat kabeer sunhu mayree maa-ee.
Says Kabeer, listen, O mother:

ien@ muMfIAn myrI jwiq gvweI ]2]3]33] (484-3, Awsw, Bgq kbIr jI)
inH mundee-an mayree jaat gavaa-ee. ||2||3||33||
these shaven-headed saints have done away with my low social status. ||2||3||33||

Awsw ] (484-3)

according to him the first four lines of this shabad is from mother of kabeer ji .she is saying that her son was attached to wealth.but after joining the sangat of saints her son is now attached to name of lord.

if you can read punjabi i advise read you to the translation of the shabad

Dear Kaur -1 and KDS1980 Ji

I think there has been some mistake in your reading teeka of Prof Sahib Singh

Quote:

Acoording to Prof Sahib Singh Ji All the Lines in this shabad are written by Kabir Himself and he does not support the above version in which it is thought that first four lines are written by Mother of Bhagat Kabir Ji

word bahuree-aa

Means BRIDE /NEW BRIDE and here it refers to SOUL BRIDE

word Dhanee-aa

is not name instead it means WEALTHY and here it refers to attachment of soul bride to wealth

word bitvahi means CHILD and refers to Unknowing Childish Mind

So in this shabd Kabir Ji is Just singing the praise of lord and appreciating the change that has occured in his life

Kabir Ji refer to his soul bride that it was attached to Wealth ( so named it Wealthy ) and now it is attached to GOD ( so named it raam Raam-jannia) and also states that his new companions which has attached him to name of lord has also made his social status go away which refers to elevation above wordly distinction in castes .

This is what I understood of the translation and hope it helps

Jatinder Singh

Second shabad sung amazingly in the ransbhai by Bhai Apardeep Singh is from Ang 484.
