Why I Chose To Be A Sikh and Not a Christian!

Ok I am a former Sikh girl and now a Christian

1. The Guru Granth Sahib ji was penned by the Guru's and not by disciples, many years later.

What does "penned" have to do with anything? Jesus Christ didn't come on the earth to write books, the disciples wrote them because Christ told me raise awareness and they did it willingly and out of love for him.

2. Sikhism is a non-missionary faith that does not believe in converting other and disrespecting other people beliefs.

Christian Missionaries are put in place to raise awareness and bring the truth to people and bring people to salvation. There is no such principle in the Sikh faith that offers salvation and freedom to those living and suffering in sin in their lives. I agree that some Christian Missionaries approach people in way that would turn them off and away from christianity but that doesn't mean shut out the truth and don't do your own research.

3. Sikhism concepts of Langaar (Communal Kitchen), Wandh Chakna, and the Chardi Kalan Spirit.

Ok I used to go to the gurudawara all the time with my parents and most of the times the "langar" was the main attraction that people even came in the first place. Most people don't come their to listen to the sangeet and the shabd, they come to eat lunch and sit around gossip with other indians. I used to get sick to my stomach watching them do this. Communal Kitchen, more like "gossip Kitchen". All they would sit there and do is brag about how much they have, what someone else doesn't have. No one ever talked about gurbani, what they had just heard inside. It was sickening. They all would just come for the free lunch. And the Gurudawar's these days are becoming like nice and breezy buisnesses for people because there is no taxation on the money supposedly going to GOD.

4. "Higher than Truth is Truthful Living". No point just talking about the truth unless one is prepared to live it.

oh yeah so tell me this, according to the gurbani, love the the center of everything, love all. That's the teaching right, then why do sikhs to this day still get a sour face at the mention of interracial marriages, just like my parents did when I decided to marry a man of a white decent who happens to be a christian. No love being showed there, no gurbani being followed their. No where in the guru granth does it say what the color of the skin of a person should be that a sikh should marry or what their last name should be or faith. Guru nanak's intial start of his journey never had the goal of creating a new faith, but then again people just as they always have and will make up their own ideologies and run with and make a seperate religion. I don't get that, what's "truthful in that".

5. Defending the poor and weak, no matter what their religion, colour, creed.

oh please i am an indian, a punjabi and of the Jatt caste and I can say in all 100 percent honesty, that indian people are one of the most rascist people I have ever seen, I should know I am one of them, born into the family of one. why was there even a caste system create??? if not to promote inequality???

I am not saying they don't help at all and are not giving but man when it comes down to protecting family honor and their so called societal laws and this, screw all other races we want nothing to do with them. They will even condemn their own for stepping out of the bounds, just like many did with me. I wasn't doing anything against the guru granth, I was just following my heart and wanted to marry the person I love but oooooooooh nooooooo he's white, he's not indian, he's not sikh, he's not jatt......and now i am as good as dead.

7. Sikh women can and have for last 300 to 400 years taken Sikh congregations wheras Christians still argue about female priests.

which christians do you know I'd like to know, my pastor is female!!

and buddy there is a lot of inequality between sikh men and women, I know, I've lived it.

8. The concept of Gurmatta or mutual consent, which is a democratic principle. Christianity has no such principle.

hmmmmm clarify this one for me?

9. God does not take human form, but rather God is in each and every one of us. It is up to each and every one of us to realise God.

ooooooookkkkkkkk, well i can say this if god is in every sikh, I am disappointed in a lot of them by the way they behave towards each other.

10. Sikhism respects, Jesus, Mohammed, Moses, Ram etc on an equal footing.

11. Believe in the life of a householder and not one of a recluse or a Nun or Priest.

I think I can add little more

12.Sikhism is based on the teachings of the ten Gurus contained in Guru Granth Sahib while Christianity is based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ regarded as the Son of God contained in the Bible.
13.Christianity is the largest religion in the world with Sikhism being the fifth.

14Sikhs regard God as shapeless, timeless and sightless while Christians regard Jesus as the God.

15.Sikhs need to follow a very strict code regarding the five necessary items to be worn at all times, however, no such code exists in Christians.
16.Sikhs try to attain salvation through balancing work, worship and charity while the Christians try to do this by following the teachings of Jesus from the Bible.

17. Meditation

Sikhs believe that meditation on the Guru Granth Sahib draws them closer to God; it cleanses a person from sin and instills godly qualities in him. They see it as ameans of salivation.
Christians do not believe that meditation can set anyone
free from sin but do value it as way of
drawing closer to God, hearing his voice

and discerning his will.

You have seen the Sangat in Amritsar how it is I think I do not need to say more

I have seen a lot of women being mistreated in Sikh(Gurdwara going and AmritDhari) Families. I personally helped quite a few of them, one recent case that I had was of a PHD girl from India, being treated like a slave by her husband and her in-laws for last fifteen years and she eventually had to end up in a shelter, even her parents and brothers did not bother(living in India). What are your thoughts about this.

Ans:

First of all PHD, when she was married to this person her or his Partner has equal study?
In Canada or USA, women’s has more power than Men’s
Only Low thinking families does that to there Daughter in Laws
In Gurudwara’s I have 35 years Experience going there if you are strong well educated in Sikhi No one can be bully with you But I do agree on one thing if you are not a Jatt than they might look at your differently

If we treat women equally, why this is happening?

I know we have few families where women are respected equally, but it is very rare.

It really feels awkward when I see a very well educated sikh girl, financially independent; scared to do anything on her own, scared to make a descision entirely involving her, scared to have a baby girl.

You chose to be a sikh your wellcome to do so dont reason against not being a christian, it shows your still stuck in your past it was there now its no more, enjoy and cherish your new way of life

Penji, you seem to have a problem with the community (punjabi community it seems).

I have a problem with some in the community too but this does not mean that I am going to leave Sikhee. How stupid would I be If I did that?

Where is your effort to learn Gurbani on your own steam?
