| | | | | Coconuts removed from trees in preparation for Barack Obama's trip Coconuts removed from trees in preparation for Barack Obama's trip Register to Remove Advertisements Mr Obama will arrive in India on Saturday for the first leg of an Asian tour.
But as well as the usual security measures that come with welcoming a a visiting dignitary, Indian authorities have decided to go one step further, by removing all natural threats to the president as well.
All coconuts around the city's Gandhi museum, one of Mr Obama's stops in the city, are being taken down.
Mani Bhavan, where Mahatma Gandhi stayed during his freedom struggle against the British, is among five places the US president is visiting in Mumbai.
"We told the authorities to remove the dry coconuts from trees near the building. Why take a chance?" Mani Bhavan's executive secretary, Meghshyam Ajgaonkar, told the BBC.
Last week American security officers inspected Mani Bhavan and its surroundings along with other places the president is likely to visit.
Every year in India people are injured or even killed by falling coconuts. Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/business-and-lifestyle/33127-coconuts-removed-trees-preparation-barack-obamas.html
Mr Obama, still smarting from heavy losses in the midterm elections, will visit India, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan and China on the 10-day tour. Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=33127 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...ndia-trip.html

The more I thought about this story the more I realized that if coconuts fell and knocked out someone in the crowd it might cause a panic and secret service might start shooting. This is probably the kind of detail that only a security officer/ INDIAN would think of. In the US, it would escape us. It escaped me for nearly 4 hours and then the light bulb went off. The article says that falling coconuts are a real danger. That part too really amazed me, but coconut trees here in the US tend to be off on their own. In the south we landscape public areas more with giant magnolia. I am not sure about Australia. | | The following member appreciates spnadmin Ji for the above message. | |
