In the study, the NIPCD has raised a question mark over the government-run public distribution system, which is supposed to provide food at subsidised rates to the poor, but has failed to deliver "The benefits of the programme do not seem to reach about 30 per cent of the population, so a different approach is required." The data also gives insight into the child preference of Indian women. About 38 per cent women with two daughters want another child, but only 17 per cent with two sons want another child. This is cos we are not Guru's sikhs and don't follow their teachings. I mean it literally !

- Obesity happens cos of the rich diet and lack of exercise. This is totally not natural and not a sikh way of life.
- Foeticide and infanticide arising from no trust in waheguru's will - again a sikh by definition can't do it.

We just pretend to be sikhs otherwise such trends wouldn't have even surfaced.

Of course.

Then we still have the second step of remaining healthy while having enough to eat, which should be a natural followup to the current affairs in punjab. I really do think that punjab is getting better, now that some of these matters are finally in the open, we can address them now with less fear.

I don't see how overeating constitutes healthy eating and overweight girls are an indicator of people looking after girls. If anything it is a sign of abuse.

True, this is a sign of abuse.

One can analyze it this way as well - true that 60% of people in punjab have enough to eat so they sometimes overeat and so do women (which is bad) , but on the contrary now women can't exercise openly and are treated poorly with limited means on hand and hence are obeser than women in other states who have equal quantities to eat.

Don't take it literally, just a stupid analysis

What obesity a sign of abuse

Here are the obesity statistics of Uk

UK Obesity Statistics
Trends in Overweight and Obesity

About 46% of men in England and 32% of women are overweight (a body mass index of 25-30 kg/m2), and an additional 17% of men and 21% of women are obese (a body mass index of more than 30 kg/m2 ).

Overweight and obesity increase with age. About 28% of men and 27% of women aged 16-24 are overweight or obese but 76% of men and 68% of women aged 55-64 are overweight or obese.

Overweight and obesity are increasing. The percentage of adults who are obese has roughly doubled since the mid-1980's.

Yes its stupid analsys .the main factor is that people of punjab now have enough money so they are eating plenty and also employing bihari labour to do work.villagers have to do so much of physical work so they generally don't need to exercise. But now its look like that they are not doing physical work.

I'll tell you who is abusing people in the UK. Businesses!

The culture of ready meals and convenience means that people are apparently getting fatter here. But to be honest I don't really notice it on a street level. Another factor you have to consider is that this may be a proactive attempt to shock people into looking after themselves by UK authorities.

If the situation in Panjab is true than trouble lays ahead. Already there is low birthrate of females and this may mean that many of those that are around will be unhealthily obese.

Lay off the Gulab Jumuns and ghee!!
