The Lord is the philosopher's stone, which transforms lead into gold, and sandalwood, while I am just dry wood and iron.

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਦੂਖੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
जिसु सिमरत दूखु सभु जाइ ॥
Jis simraṯ ḏūkẖ sabẖ jā▫e.
Remembering Him in meditation, all pains are gone.
ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੧॥
नामु रतनु वसै मनि आइ ॥१॥
Nām raṯan vasai man ā▫e. ||1||
The jewel of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to dwell in the mind. ||1||
ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
जपि मन मेरे गोविंद की बाणी ॥
Jap man mere govinḏ kī baṇī.
O my mind, chant the Bani, the Hymns of the Lord of the Universe.
ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਸਨ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
साधू जन रामु रसन वखाणी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Sāḏẖū jan rām rasan vakẖāṇī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
The Holy People chant the Lord's Name with their tongues. ||1||Pause||
ਇਕਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਇ ॥
इकसु बिनु नाही दूजा कोइ ॥
Ikas bin nāhī ḏūjā ko▫e.
Without the One Lord, there is no other at all.
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
जा की द्रिसटि सदा सुखु होइ ॥२॥
Jā kī ḏarisat saḏā sukẖ ho▫e. ||2||
By His Glance of Grace, eternal peace is obtained. ||2||
ਸਾਜਨੁ ਮੀਤੁ ਸਖਾ ਕਰਿ ਏਕੁ ॥
साजनु मीतु सखा करि एकु ॥
Sājan mīṯ sakẖā kar ek.
Make the One Lord your friend, intimate and companion.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਖਰ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਲੇਖੁ ॥੩॥
हरि हरि अखर मन महि लेखु ॥३॥
Har har akẖar man mėh lekẖ. ||3||
Write in your mind the Word of the Lord, Har, Har. ||3||
ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਰਬਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
रवि रहिआ सरबत सुआमी ॥
Rav rahi▫ā sarbaṯ su▫āmī.
The Lord Master is totally pervading everywhere.
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੪॥੬੨॥੧੩੧॥
गुण गावै नानकु अंतरजामी ॥४॥६२॥१३१॥
Guṇ gāvai Nānak anṯarjāmī. ||4||62||131||

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਸੂਕੇ ਹਰੇ ਕੀਏ ਖਿਨ ਮਾਹੇ ॥
सूके हरे कीए खिन माहे ॥
Sūke hare kī▫e kẖin māhe.
The dried branches are made green again in an instant.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸੰਚਿ ਜੀਵਾਏ ॥੧॥
अम्रित द्रिसटि संचि जीवाए ॥१॥
Amriṯ ḏarisat sancẖ jīvā▫e. ||1||
His Ambrosial Glance irrigates and revives them. ||1||
ਕਾਟੇ ਕਸਟ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥
काटे कसट पूरे गुरदेव ॥
Kāte kasat pūre gurḏev.
The Perfect Divine Guru has removed my sorrow.
ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਦੀਨੀ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
सेवक कउ दीनी अपुनी सेव ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Sevak ka▫o ḏīnī apunī sev. ||1|| rahā▫o.
He blesses His servant with His service. ||1||Pause||
ਮਿਟਿ ਗਈ ਚਿੰਤ ਪੁਨੀ ਮਨ ਆਸਾ ॥
मिटि गई चिंत पुनी मन आसा ॥
Mit ga▫ī cẖinṯ punī man āsā.
Anxiety is removed, and the desires of the mind are fulfilled,
ਕਰੀ ਦਇਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਗੁਣਤਾਸਾ ॥੨॥
करी दइआ सतिगुरि गुणतासा ॥२॥
Karī ḏa▫i▫ā saṯgur guṇṯāsā. ||2||
when the True Guru, the Treasure of Excellence, shows His Kindness. ||2||
ਦੁਖ ਨਾਠੇ ਸੁਖ ਆਇ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
दुख नाठे सुख आइ समाए ॥
Ḏukẖ nāṯẖe sukẖ ā▫e samā▫e.
Pain is driven far away, and peace comes in its place;
ਢੀਲ ਨ ਪਰੀ ਜਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਏ ॥੩॥
ढील न परी जा गुरि फुरमाए ॥३॥
Dẖīl na parī jā gur furmā▫e. ||3||
there is no delay, when the Guru gives the Order. ||3||
ਇਛ ਪੁਨੀ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੇ ॥
इछ पुनी पूरे गुर मिले ॥
Icẖẖ punī pūre gur mile.
Desires are fulfilled, when one meets the True Guru;
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਸੁਫਲ ਫਲੇ ॥੪॥੫੮॥੧੨੭॥
नानक ते जन सुफल फले ॥४॥५८॥१२७॥
Nānak ṯe jan sufal fale. ||4||58||127||

जे मनि चिति आस रखहि हरि ऊपरि ता मन चिंदे अनेक अनेक फल पाई ॥
Je man cẖiṯ ās rakẖėh har ūpar ṯā man cẖinḏe anek anek fal pā▫ī.
If, in his conscious mind, he places his hopes in the Lord, then he shall obtain the fruits of all the many desires of his mind.
