Well written article no doubt about it.

Why do sikhs gather in Gurdwara's to celebrate New Year on Dec. 31st every year?

May be the answer is "Auspicious is that time, day, hour, or month when you remember him".

GurFateh!

Gur Ka Khalsa

Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh

This gathering of Sikhs on new year eve is not very old.

This as per my personal thinking and If not wrong during "vichar" in one kirtan it was told that it was started by Professor Darshan Singh and other sikh souls, so that instead of going to clubs with the people of other religion who generally go for dance and drink , they (sikh) should gather for kirtan on new year eve.

Others sikhs in other parts of the world may also have done the same.

But basically the idea is same either it is new year or Sangrad or Gurpurab
